ਮਾਧਉ ਜਲ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਨ ਜਾਇ।।
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਅਗਨਿ ਉਠੀ ਅਧਿਕਾਏ ।। ੧ ।। ਰਹਾਉ।।

Madho jal ki pyas na jaye.

Jal meh agan uthi adhikaye. Rahao.

My thirst is unquenchable as though a fire arising from the water itself.

ਤੂੰ ਜਲਨਿਧਿ ਹਉ ਜਲ ਕਾ ਮੀਨੁ।।
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਉ ਜਲਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਖੀਨੁ ।। ੧ ।।

Tu jalnidh hau jal ka meen.

Jal meh rahon jaleh bin kheen. 1.

You are the water and I am a fish.

My life is in water

Without it there is only death for me.

ਤੂੰ ਪਿੰਜਰੁ ਹਉ ਸੂਅਟਾ ਤੋਰ।।
ਜਮੁ ਮੰਜਾਰੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਰੈ ਮੋਰ ।। ੨ ।।

Tu pinjar hau suata tor.

Jamm manjar kaha kare mor. 2.

You are the cage that protects me.

I have no fear of the cat pouncing on me.

ਤੂੰ ਤਰਵਰੁ ਹਉ ਪੰਖੀ ਆਹਿ।।
ਮੰਦਭਾਗੀ ਤੇਰੋ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਨਾਹਿ ।। ੩ ।।

Tu tarvar hau pankhi aahe.

Mandbhagi tera darsan nahe. 3.

You are the tree and I am a bird.

Unfortunately I cannot see you.

ਤੂੰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹਉ ਨਉਤਨੁ ਚੇਲਾ।।
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਮਿਲੁ ਅੰਤ ਕੀ ਬੇਲਾ ।। ੪।।

Tu satgur hau nautan chela.

Kahe Kabir mil ant ki bela. 4.
