The Sound of Silence

What appears as silence to us, is music.

So much is happening silently. Whatever is significant in life happens silently. The seed is breaking in the womb of the earth; there is not the slightest sound. Plants are growing bigger every day, there is no sound. Stars are moving quietly. The sun is rising; there is no noise.

But, on a very subtle level, what appears as silence to us, is music – the music of silence, the music of just being; the music of existence, the music that Guru Nanak calls Ek Omkar.

It is a different matter though that our senses are not trained to hear it. Our senses have become dull and numb because of the pandemonium all around. We need to revive our senses and our sensibilities. We need to hone our sensitivity to be able to experience the silence of existence.
