ਜੈਸੇ ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਮੁ ਮੁਰਗਾਈ ਨੈਸਾਣੈ।।
ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਭਵਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰੀਐ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮ ਵਖਾਣੈ।।
ਰਹਹਿ ਏਕਾਂਤ ਏਕੋ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਆਸਾ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਰਾਸੋ।।
ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਏ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾਕਾ ਦਾਸੋ।।੫।।

Jaisey jal meh kamal niraalam murgaayee naisaaney.
Surat shabad bhavsagar tareeye Nanak naam vakhaaney.
Rahey ekaant eko mann vasya aasa maahey niraaso.
Agam agochar dekh dikhaaye Nanak taka daaso. 5.

जैसे जल मह कमल निरालम मुरगाई नैसाणै।।
सुरत सबद भवसागर तरीए नानक नाम वखाणै।।
रहै एकांत एको मन वसिआ आसा माहि निरासो।।
अगम अगोचर देख दिखाए नानक ताका दासो।। 5।।
Nanak continued: the method is to be like the lotus
That grows in the water but remains untouched by it.
Like the duck that floats on it but does not let its wings get wet.
Likewise live in the world and remain untouched by it.
The real renunciate is one who remains silent in the din of the world,
And fixes his consciousness on the One who makes the invisible as clear as the day.
