ਸੂਰੁ ਚਰ੍ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਿਉ ਦੇਖੈ ਨੈਨੀ
ਨਿਵਿ ਨਿਵਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਪਾਂਈ।। ੧ ।।

Chakvi nain neend neh chahe bin pir neend na payee. Sur charhe priyo dekhe naini niv niv lage panyee. 1.

The duck does not want to sleep lest it misses the opportunity to meet his beloved. When the sun rises it is happy and grateful.

ਪਿਰ ਭਾਵੈ ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ।।
ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਘੜੀ ਨਹੀ ਜਗ ਜੀਵਾ
ਐਸੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਤਿਸਾਈ।। ੧ ।। ਰਹਾਉ।।

Chatrik jal bin priyo priyo tere bilap kare billayee. Ghanhar ghor daso dis barsey bin jal pyas na jayee. 3.

The cuckoo bird calls out to his beloved.

It is raining heavily but the thirst is still there.

ਮੀਨ ਨਿਵਾਸ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਲ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਸੁਖ ਦੁਖ ਪੁਰਬਿ ਕਮਾਈ।।
ਖਿਨੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਪਲ ਜਲ ਬਿਨੁ ਮਰਨ ਜੀਵਨੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਤਾਂਈ।। ੪ ।।

Meen nivas upajey jal hee te sukh dukh purab kamayee. Khin til reh na sakey pal jal bin maran jeevan tis tanyee.4.

The woman’s husband is in far-away lands. She sends messages to him through the guru. With his grace she realises that he is within her.

ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਜੀਉ ਜੀਉ ਹੈ ਸੋਈ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਈ।।
ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਸਹਜੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈ।। ੭ ।।

Sabh meh jio jio hai soi

ghat ghat rahya samayee.

 Gurparsad ghar hee pargasya

sahaje sahaj samayee. 7.

Everyone is seeking and longing for the beloved. With the guru’s grace some will find him.

He resides in each and every one. With the Guru’s grace this fact becomes evident.

ਅਪਨਾ ਕਾਜੁ ਸਵਾਰਹੁ ਆਪੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਗੋਸਾਈ।।
ਗੁਰਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਘਰ ਹੀ ਪਿਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਪਤਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ।। ੮ ।।

You are capable of finding the truth yourself. Once you realise the truth, all tensions and sorrows disappear and the thirst is quenched once and for all.
