Meditation is God’s prasad, grace.

God is not a person. God means the entire life energy that pervades everywhere. God is the name of this ultimate energy.

Certainly, when you are totally relaxed, you are not there at all. When you are at rest, that energy enters you, it flows in you. You are there only when you are doing something. The ego survives in effort only. Where there is no effort there is no ego either.

Naturally, meditation comes as a benediction because it does not happen through your effort. The more you try the more difficult it will get. Your effort makes you tense, and meditation will be pushed away. Meditation happens in rest. Meditation happens when you become totally effortless; when all efforts fail and you give up all effort. Effort means you have a goal; you have a longing, a desire to achieve something. When there is no tension inside, when you are absolutely quiet – there is nothing to ask, nothing to attain, nowhere to go – that is when it rains; you don’t even get to know from which unknown door the sun burst forth, and there is light and light alone.
