Guru means light.

Your guru is hiding inside you. The outside guru is a true guru if he reminds you of your inner guru. The outside guru is a false guru if he entangles you outside and does not let you go to your inner guru. Instead becomes a hurdle.

Look for your guru in yourself. You can call him by any name – lover, beloved, paramatma, consciousness, witness or guru.

The word ‘guru’ means that which dispels darkness. Guru means light, a lamp, a torch. You will know only from the guru, but the guru is within you. You cannot know from the outside guru. Nobody can give you that knowledge. He can give you a jolt to wake you up. And, that is the job of the outside guru that he gives you a rude shock. He is the alarm that is required to arouse you from your deep slumber.

And, his second job is to throw you back to yourself, to remind you that your life secret is hidden within you. Your consciousness is the torch that has always been lit, and that is where knowledge is and that is the guru.
